John Levi Martin joins us beginning summer of 2008, first as a visiting professor and potentially as a regular professor in later years.  He is a well renowned sociologist publishing in the fields of social structures, party formation, culture and cognition, and formal analysis of qualitative data.

We welcome two new assistant professors to our ranks on July 1, 2008.  Kristen Schilt, presently a postdoctoral fellow at Rice University, and Cheol-Sung Lee, now at the University of Utah. Schilt's research areas include sex and gender and qualitative methodology.  Lee's research areas include economy and society, organizations, and political movements.

Faculty Awards

Charles Bidwell received the Willard Waller Award for a Career of Distinguished Scholarship from the Sociology of Education Section at the 2007 Annual Meetings of the American Sociological Association in New York, NY.

Karin Knorr Cetina is the winner of the 2006 Theory Prize of the Theory Section of the American Sociological Association for the article by Knorr Cetina and Urs Bruegger, "Global Microstructures: The Virtual Societies of Financial Markets," published in the American Journal of Sociology, 2002. Award received August 13, 2007.
